Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back and hip tightness, and sore shoulders.
Sometimes a simple massage is not enough. When the connective tissue surrounding your muscles and bones becomes tense and pained, it’s time for a deep tissue massage.
In a deep tissue massage, I will work slowly, going layer by layer, to help release the tension and strain in the tissue, helping to correct your posture and free up your mobility. When your connective tissue is limber and supple, your muscles will be more elastic and flexible. You can expect a certain amount of discomfort when chronic injuries are being treated. I work on a pain scale of 1 – 10, 1 being no pain and 10 being extreme pain. If at any time during your treatment your pain level is above a 6 or 7 then I will modify or completely stopped the techniques being used to lower the intensity. Although I expect a certain amount of discomfort during the treatment of chronic problems it is important that your muscles don’t tense up further.
Deep tissue massage is used to treat a variety of issues such as:
-
- chronic pain
- chronically tight muscles
- postural issues
- repetitive strain
